Fuel prices in Italy surge as diesel nears 3 euros per liter

Aviation fuel has also seen an average increase of 18% over a two-week period in September. Additionally, the industrial price of diesel has risen by 54.3% since February, placing a heavy burden on transport companies. Confartigianato reports that these increases have cost transport firms an average of 11,200 euros per truck over the last six months.
On the legislative front, President Sergio Mattarella issued a decree on September 17, 2026, to gradually reduce excise duty discounts on gasoline and diesel. This reduction is expected to lead to further price hikes at the pump. Economic forecasts from Confcommercio suggest that continued high oil prices could impact Italian consumption and growth significantly by 2027.
