Diet and Lifestyle Factors Influence Brain Health and Dementia Risk

A two‑decade Tel Aviv University study of about 500 cardiovascular patients found that higher insulin‑resistance scores were associated with accelerated decline in memory and executive function, indicating insulin resistance as a modifiable risk factor for dementia.

A systematic review and meta‑analysis of 27 animal studies by the University of Technology Sydney showed that switching from high‑fat or high‑sugar diets to healthier diets improved memory, but recovery was incomplete, especially after sugar‑rich feeding.

Nutrition experts from the University of Arkansas stress that heart‑healthy foods such as leafy greens, berries, nuts, whole grains, fish and olive oil—key components of Mediterranean and DASH diets—support vascular health, reduce inflammation and may lower long‑term cognitive decline risk.
