Dietary and lifestyle strategies for managing chronic inflammation and disease

Scientific research indicates that specific natural foods and regular physical activity play critical roles in combating systemic inflammation and managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular issues, arthritis, and certain cancers.

Anti-inflammatory dietary components include fatty fish (salmon, sardines) rich in omega-3 fatty acids, extra virgin olive oil containing oleocanthal, and leafy green vegetables. Other beneficial foods include berries, nuts, tomatoes, turmeric, ginger, and green tea. These foods provide antioxidants and compounds like curcumin and polyphenols that help protect cells and regulate immune responses.

Physical activity, often referred to as ‘exercise as medicine,’ offers additional systemic benefits. For type 2 diabetics, exercise improves insulin sensitivity; for cardiovascular patients, it helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Regular movement also supports joint flexibility in arthritis patients, aids in weight management, and improves mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
