Dietary changes recommended to lower cholesterol and triglycerides

Nutritionists and dietitians recommend specific dietary changes to manage cholesterol and triglyceride levels. To lower triglycerides, experts suggest consuming fiber-rich foods, such as bran cereals with low sugar, which can support gut health and lipid metabolism. Significant improvements in triglyceride levels can sometimes be seen within six weeks through dietary adjustments, including avoiding alcohol and limiting added sugars.

For managing LDL (bad) cholesterol, oats are highly recommended due to beta-glucan, a type of fiber that forms a gel in the digestive tract to help excrete bile acids. Other heart-healthy breakfast options include berries, nuts, and whole-grain breads.

Plant-based proteins like chickpeas, lentils, beans, and lentils are highlighted as affordable alternatives to red and processed meats, which are high in saturated fats. While lentils offer a slight nutritional edge in protein and fiber content, both legumes are considered excellent for heart health and satiety.
