Dietary fats and cellular memory impact metabolic and immune health

Recent scientific research indicates that dietary habits and cellular biology play significant roles in long-term metabolic health and immune function. Studies show that immune cells in human fat tissue retain a biological memory of obesity through epigenetic modifications. Even after weight loss, these cells act as a molecular signature that can prime adipose tissue for rapid fat reaccumulation when high-calorie foods are consumed again.

Additionally, research published in Nature suggests that the balance of dietary fats influences the survival of T cells. A higher ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) can make T-cell membranes more prone to ferroptosis, a form of cell death driven by iron and lipid oxidation. This vulnerability may weaken immune responses, including antitumor immunity and the effectiveness of CAR-T cell therapies.
