Dietary fiber linked to improved immune response

Scientific research highlights the critical role of dietary fiber in maintaining a robust immune system. A study published in the journal Cell Host & Microbe, conducted by researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine in the United States and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), demonstrates how fiber consumption directly influences intestinal immune responses.

When gut bacteria ferment these fibers, they produce acetate, a short-chain fatty acid that regulates the activity of defense cells within the intestinal wall. Experts suggest that a varied diet rich in legumes, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and high-quality proteins is more effective for immune health than relying on quick-fix supplements.
