Dietary habits and cholesterol management advice from medical experts

Medical experts are providing guidance on dietary choices to manage cholesterol levels and support heart health. In Poland, approximately 21 million people, or about 70 percent of the adult population, have cholesterol levels exceeding recommended norms. Professor Maciej Banach, president of the Polish Society of Lipidology, notes that elevated LDL levels often lack obvious symptoms but can lead to atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes.

To combat this, cardiologists suggest making small dietary adjustments. Dr. Kaustubh Dabhadkar recommends replacing processed snacks like chips with a handful of nuts, which are more nutrient-dense.

Regarding egg consumption, cardiologists such as Dr. Jeremy London suggest that eggs can be a valuable part of a diverse diet due to their protein, choline, and vitamin content. While one egg contains about 180 mg of cholesterol, the body often adjusts its own production based on dietary intake. However, the impact varies by individual; ‘hyper-responders’ may see significant increases in blood cholesterol from dietary sources, whereas ‘hypo-responders’ see little to no change, often due to genetic factors.
