Dietary habits and hormonal changes linked to chronic fatigue

Chronic fatigue and energy fluctuations can be driven by a combination of nutritional habits and hormonal changes. Nutritional experts suggest that irregular meal patterns, such as skipping breakfast or relying on caffeine, can disrupt blood sugar levels and lead to exhaustion. A lack of protein can cause rapid energy spikes and crashes, while insufficient iron intake—particularly during menstruation, pregnancy, or puberty—can impair oxygen transport and immunity.

Furthermore, excessive consumption of stimulants like energy drinks and dehydration can mask deep fatigue and further deplete the nervous system. Beyond diet, hormonal shifts play a significant role. Symptoms often attributed solely to stress, such as persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest, irregular menstrual cycles, and sleep disturbances, may actually indicate underlying hormonal imbalances. These can be linked to thyroid function or life stages such as perimenopause, affecting metabolism, skin, and mood.
