Dietary habits and nutritional intake for health and skin longevity

Nutritional choices play a critical role in maintaining overall health and slowing the aging process of the skin. According to World Health Organization recommendations, individuals over the age of 10 should consume at least 400 grams of fruits and vegetables daily, while children aged 2 to 5 require at least 250 grams, and those aged 6 to 9 require at least 350 grams.

Consuming a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables provides essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which support digestive health and help prevent non-communicable diseases. Specifically, foods rich in carotenoids, such as carrots, peppers, and tomatoes, can provide a baseline level of protection against UV radiation, acting similarly to a low-SPF sunscreen when consumed regularly.

Other beneficial dietary components for skin health include healthy fats, such as olive oil, fatty fish, nuts, and fermented foods. While environmental factors like air pollution, ozone, and rising temperatures contribute to skin aging, a diet rich in antioxidants can help protect the body's largest organ from environmental damage and the natural loss of collagen.
