Dietary nutrients and topical treatments for hair health

Nutritional intake and topical treatments can play roles in managing hair health and reducing hair loss. A balanced diet rich in specific vitamins, minerals, and proteins is essential for maintaining hair structure.

Key foods for hair health include walnuts, which provide vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, selenium, and proteins. Salmon is a significant source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins B and D. Eggs contribute biotin, zinc, selenium, and protein, while whey serves as a highly digestible protein source. Additionally, peppers are high in vitamin C, which aids collagen production and iron absorption.

For topical application, a homemade lotion consisting of olive oil and black pepper may help reduce hair breakage and keep existing hair on the scalp longer. The process involves infusing one tablespoon of ground black pepper into 200 ml of olive oil for at least two weeks to allow piperin to transfer into the oil. Piperin can help dilate capillaries and increase blood flow to the scalp when applied to dry hair.
