Dietary patterns and biological aging study
An observational study involving 7,500 German adults suggests that the healthiest eating pattern is not defined by a single specific diet, but rather by the overlap of various healthy dietary models.
Researchers analyzed ten different dietary patterns, including the Mediterranean, DASH, Nordic, and plant-based diets. The findings indicated that individuals adhering to these patterns generally showed fewer signs of biological aging. While there were minor differences between the diets, no single pattern emerged as the absolute best.
The study identified commonalities across the most successful diets, highlighting a shared emphasis on specific food groups. These include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fatty fish, unsaturated fats such as avocados, nuts, and seeds, and olive oil. Conversely, healthy patterns were characterized by a limited intake of red and processed meats, highly processed products, added sugars, and trans or saturated fats.
