Dietary research examines the impact of fats and nutrition on heart and liver health
Recent nutritional research and expert opinions are challenging traditional dietary assumptions regarding fats and processed foods. American cardiac surgeon Dr. Dwight Lundell suggests a return to unprocessed, traditional diets similar to those consumed by previous generations to help repair arterial damage caused by fast food and industrial processing.
Lundell recommends using fats such as ghee (clarified butter), coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, palm oil, and regular butter for cooking. He emphasizes that removing inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh, unprocessed sources can improve overall bodily health.
In a separate study published in the journal Cell Metabolism, researchers compared the effects of the Mediterranean diet, a low-fat plant-based diet, and the ketogenic diet on individuals with obesity, prediabetes, and fatty liver disease. While participants across all groups lost similar amounts of body weight, the study noted significant differences in liver fat reduction and blood sugar regulation between the different dietary approaches.
