Dietary risks for liver health and metabolic disease
Nutritionists are warning about specific food categories that can negatively impact liver health and contribute to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Frequent consumption of these items can lead to fat accumulation in the liver, potentially progressing to fibrosis, cirrhosis, or liver cancer.
Key dietary risks include:
1. Sweetened beverages: Drinks high in added fructose, such as sodas and certain fruit juices, can stimulate fat production in the liver and contribute to insulin resistance.
2. Fried foods: High consumption of fried items is linked to metabolic issues.
3. Processed meats.
4. White bread and refined cereals.
5. Alcohol.
Experts emphasize that while occasional consumption may not cause disease, regular intake of these foods significantly increases health risks.
