Dieter Hallervorden resumes smoking at age 91

German actor and theater director Dieter Hallervorden, 91, has resumed smoking after several years of abstinence. He stated in an interview with the dpa news agency that he began smoking again out of solidarity with his wife, Christiane Zander, who returned to smoking after filming.

Hallervorden clarified that he maintains control over the habit, smoking a maximum of five cigarettes per day, typically in the evening. He noted that he could stop again at any time if necessary.

To maintain his health, the actor follows a rigorous fitness routine including swimming, stationary bike training, and daily walks. He also uses a wearable fitness device to monitor his heart rate, sleep quality, and stress levels. Hallervorden remains active in his professional life, continuing his work at the Schlosspark-Theater in Berlin.
