Dietitians organize in Ankara to advocate for professional legislation
The National Dietetics Union Establishment Initiative (UDBG) and the Obesity Dietetics Association (OBED) are organizing a major gathering in Ankara to advocate for the legal and institutional future of the dietitian profession. A wreath-laying ceremony is planned for August 21, 2026, at Anıtkabir, involving representatives from 36 provinces, including academics and students.
The initiative aims to establish a clear legal framework for the duties, authorities, and responsibilities of dietitians through the proposed Dietetics Profession Law and the Turkish Dietitians Union Law. This movement is driven by the need to address rising public health issues in Turkey, such as obesity, which affects approximately 32% of the adult population.
Scientific support for these legislative efforts is being provided by an Extraordinary Academic Workshop coordinated by Professor Nevin Şanlıer. This workshop focuses on producing scientific reports and policy recommendations regarding professional ethics, employment policies, and nutritional standards to ensure reliable nutrition services for the public.
