Mexican states expand food assistance and school breakfast programs
Various Mexican state governments are implementing food assistance programs to address nutritional needs. In Sonora, the School Feeding Program, managed by DIF Sonora, has provided over 12.8 million rations to approximately 195,000 students in 2026. The administration has invested 334.8 million pesos this year, with a total of over 1,500 million pesos allocated during the current term. The program includes a shift toward preparing hot meals in schools and serves various indigenous communities.
In San Luis Potosí, the Secretariat of Social and Regional Development (Sedesore) is conducting door-to-door deliveries of more than 60,000 food aid packages. These packages, which include staples like beans, rice, milk, and hygiene products, are being distributed across various municipalities to support local families.
Additionally, in Sinaloa, DIF Sinaloa has delivered 15,440 food aid packages throughout 2026 to support 7,720 people, specifically targeting fishing communities in areas such as Rosario to provide emergency nutritional assistance.
