Mexico City expands ‘Desde la Cuna’ child support program by 23,000 families

The government of Mexico City, led by Head of Government Clara Brugada, announced the addition of 23,000 new beneficiaries to the “Desde la Cuna” program, raising the total number of children receiving support to 120,000 in July. Each child aged 0‑3 receives a bi‑monthly cash transfer of 1,200 pesos, intended to help families cover food, health and care costs, while complementary services such as positive‑parenting workshops and early‑development activities are offered.

A second distribution later in the year delivered support to another 20,000 families, bringing the program’s reach closer to its goal of 170,000 children by the end of 2026. The city plans to invest about 860 million pesos to achieve this target, which represents roughly 50 % of the capital’s 0‑3‑year‑old population. Alongside the cash transfers, the administration will build 300 Child Care and Development Centers by 2030 under the new Care Law, further strengthening early‑childhood services.

The expansion aims to reduce social inequality by focusing on the first 1,000 days of life, a critical period for physical, cognitive and emotional development, and to support the predominantly female caregivers who receive the benefits.
