Differdange Launches Local Renewable Electricity Sharing Platform

The city of Differdange in Luxembourg has introduced an e‑community platform that enables residents to share locally produced renewable electricity. The system allows producers with photovoltaic installations to sell surplus power directly to other members, including households that cannot install panels themselves. Participants benefit from a guaranteed feed‑in tariff of 7.5 cents per kWh year‑round, faster return on investment for producers, and reduced electricity bills for consumers.

The initiative aims to decentralise energy supply, lower dependence on imports, and give citizens greater control over pricing and the transition to sustainable power. Registration for the community is open to all residents of Differdange, with the platform facilitating direct exchanges and the potential development of new energy‑related services.
