DIFINES launches Japan-exclusive 10-yen shop plan

DIFINES has launched a plan to expand a Japan-exclusive, community-based ‘10-yen shop’ concept to combat rising inflation. The initiative aims to provide retro-themed goods, including 1980s-style games, traditional snacks (dagashi), fresh produce, and daily necessities at extremely low price points.

Using the MetaFace digital wallet, customers can access items starting at 10 yen, while cash payments will start at 20 yen. The project's primary strategic goal is not immediate profit maximization, but rather the widespread adoption of the MetaFace wallet among younger generations. By integrating the wallet into daily shopping and play, DIFINES intends to establish MetaFace as a foundational tool for users as they grow.

The rollout will begin with a pilot store to test customer traffic, registration rates, and operational costs. Following this validation phase, the company aims to expand to 100 locations across Japan through various formats, including independent stores and specialized corners within existing retail outlets. A unified payment system will be developed to manage QR codes, inventory, and sales across all participating locations.
