Dominican Republic community events highlight nature, sports, and history

Several community and sporting events took place in the Dominican Republic. The DIGECAC First Plant Festival in Santo Domingo Este drew over 12,000 visitors for a two-day event focused on environmental education. Participants received more than 15,000 plants and attended workshops on topics such as landscaping, biodiversity, and organic composting.

In sports, Central Boxing hosted a gathering to honor seven Dominican boxers who won gold medals at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. Raquel del Río, president of Central Boxing, highlighted the challenges faced by local athletes and called for greater societal support to provide better opportunities for sporting talent.

Agricultural education was promoted through Sanut’s “A la granja, sin salir de la ciudad” event, which attracted approximately 6,000 people to the Agrotienda Sanut. The fifth edition featured tilapia fishing and direct contact with farm animals to teach children about food production. Additionally, the FundoVida Foundation organized a community meeting in Santo Domingo Este to commemorate the 163rd anniversary of the Dominican Restoration, using educational materials to teach history to children and seniors.
