Digi launches free spam‑call alert service as Colombia reports record spam call volumes
Mexican telecom operator Digi announced a free service that notifies customers when an incoming call is identified as possible spam. The alert appears on the smartphone with the message “posible spam”, allowing users to decide whether to answer or block the call. The feature is active for all Digi customers and does not automatically block calls, mirroring similar steps taken by other operators.
In the first half of 2026, Colombia experienced a surge in unwanted calls, with 576 million spam calls recorded—a 21 % increase over the same period in 2025. Authorities linked more than 2.6 billion of the 9.5 billion global spam calls to fraud attempts. The National Police’s Cyber Center reported 196 arrests related to telephone‑fraud networks, while the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce investigated companies for unauthorized use of personal data. Users blocked roughly 3.4 billion of the unwanted communications, placing Colombia among the top ten countries worldwide for spam call volume.
