DIGI pushes telecom price cuts and 5G fixed broadband in Portugal

Portugal recorded the third‑largest year‑on‑year decline in telecom service prices across the EU, with a 2.5% drop in May 2026 versus a 1.2% rise on average in the bloc. The fall is largely attributed to low‑cost operator DIGI, which now offers standalone mobile plans from €4 per month and triple‑play bundles starting at €21.

DIGI is also expanding its service mix by launching a fixed‑line 5G broadband offering. The new product provides unlimited home internet via the 5G mobile network, initially priced at €5 with a router included, aimed at customers without fiber‑optic connections and positioning the carrier as more than just the cheapest option.

The price reductions and the 5G fixed‑broadband rollout put pressure on incumbent players such as MEO, Vodafone and NOS, intensifying competition in Portugal’s telecom market.
