Digicel plans increased investment in Suriname and Guyana

Digicel executives met with Surinamese President Jennifer Simons to discuss the company’s financial health and future investment strategies. Deonarine Gopaul, CEO of Digicel Suriname and Guyana, reported that the company maintains a strong financial position and healthy cash flow following the acquisition of new shareholders.

The company intends to increase investments in Suriname, specifically to support developments in the oil and gas sectors. A key focus of the discussions was the expansion of fiber optic technology. Frankie Deonarine, Country Manager and CTO of Digicel Suriname, noted that the recent introduction of fiber optics has significantly increased internet speeds for households and businesses, moving from previous averages of 20 to 30 Mbps to speeds of 400, 500, and 600 Mbps.

Digicel highlighted the strategic importance and interconnectedness of the Surinamese and Guyanese markets, noting that both regions will benefit from ongoing infrastructure investments.
