Digital and domestic energy consumption impacts

On World Energy Conservation Day, emphasis is placed on reducing energy consumption through improved efficiency in heating, hot water, and household appliances. Key strategies include using LED lighting, implementing motion sensors, and optimizing climate control settings to reduce emissions associated with electricity production.

In the digital sector, the carbon footprint of technology is a growing concern. The lifecycle of digital devices—from raw material extraction to manufacturing and disposal—contributes significantly to environmental impact. In France, equipment production utilizes approximately 117 million tonnes of resources annually. The digital sector accounts for roughly 4.4% of France's carbon footprint, driven largely by data centers that require continuous electricity for servers and cooling systems.
