Digital audio trends show growth in DAB+ and online streaming

Recent media reports indicate a significant shift in audio consumption trends across Germany and Austria. In Germany, DAB+ digital radio is outpacing web radio, with 25 million people listening to DAB+ within a four-week period, representing 39 percent of radio listeners. The net digitalization rate in Germany has reached 78 percent. Regional data shows Bavaria leads in DAB+ household penetration at 47 percent.

In Austria, online audio services—including web radio, music streaming, and podcasts—have reached widespread adoption, with 93 percent of the online population using such services. Half of Austrian users access online audio nearly every day. A notable trend is the shift in vehicle entertainment; while many still use built-in systems, 47 percent of users now utilize smartphones via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to listen to radio, placing local broadcasters in direct competition with international tech platforms.
