Digital detox remains a minority practice among vacationers

Data from Bitkom Research indicates that digital detoxing during vacations remains a minority practice. Only approximately 22 percent of travelers engage in a digital detox while on holiday.

The duration of these breaks varies significantly among participants. While 13 percent of respondents plan to spend only one day without digital media, 5 percent intend to go without it for several days. Only 3 percent opt for a week-long break, and just 1 percent plan to remain disconnected for more than seven days.

Age is a major factor in digital consumption habits. Among those aged 16 to 29, only 17 percent plan to take a digital break, whereas 32 percent of travelers over the age of 65 practice digital detoxing during their holidays.

Experts suggest various strategies to manage smartphone use, such as digital intermittent fasting—setting specific times for offline periods—and establishing routines that do not involve screens to reduce dependency and stress.
