Digital education initiatives expand in Germany

Digital education initiatives are expanding in Germany through new collaborative programs and voluntary service opportunities.

In the Main-Kinzig-Kreis, the regional-digital@vhs cooperation between the adult education centers of Main-Kinzig, Wetterau, and Gießen will continue its online program into the second half of 2026. This partnership aims to provide flexible learning opportunities in rural areas, offering courses ranging from language studies and Swedish culture to artificial intelligence and digital health literacy.

In Thuringia, a new voluntary digital year (FSJ Digital) is launching to help young people acquire media and digital competencies. For the 2026/2027 pilot year, 15 positions will be available. Participants will work on projects involving media design and project management, supported by the Thuringian Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Labor and Family and the Thuringian Ministry for Digital and Infrastructure. The program is implemented by the Landesvereinigung Kulturelle Jugendbildung Thüringen e. V. and technically supervised by the Thüringer Landesmedienanstalt.
