Digital fraud waves target motorists and banking users in Denmark and Norway

Scammers are employing increasingly sophisticated digital fraud methods targeting citizens in Denmark and Norway.

In Denmark, a new phishing campaign is targeting motorists via SMS. Fraudsters send messages appearing to be from Copenhagen Municipality regarding unpaid parking fines. These messages contain links to professional-looking websites designed to steal credit card information and personal data. Investigators have identified over 100 fake websites linked to this wave, with technical traces pointing toward Chinese servers and infrastructure.

In Norway, a different tactic involves impersonating services like PayPal to bypass traditional security measures such as BankID. Scammers contact victims via telephone, claiming suspicious activity is occurring. They then persuade individuals to download screen-sharing applications like AnyDesk or TeamViewer. Once access is granted, criminals can control the victim's device and use services like Apple Pay to transfer funds directly from the user's card. Reports indicate that digital fraud remains a significant issue, with substantial sums lost to payment card scams in recent periods.
