Digital habits and their impact on psychological and physical well-being

Modern lifestyle habits are increasingly characterized by a constant reliance on digital devices to occupy time and avoid reality. This tendency to use screens to fill silences, manage boredom, or escape uncomfortable emotions like loneliness and loss has become a pervasive part of daily life.

Physically, prolonged smartphone use is linked to eye strain, dryness, and headaches. This occurs because individuals blink significantly less frequently when focused on screens, preventing natural ocular lubrication. To mitigate these effects, experts suggest the 20-20-20 rule—looking at something 6 meters away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes—adjusting screen brightness, using blue light filters, and utilizing preservative-free artificial tears to maintain moisture.
