Digital health initiatives in Germany focus on electronic patient records

Various initiatives in Germany are focusing on increasing digital literacy regarding the electronic patient record (ePA) and other digital health tools for both medical professionals and the public.

In Bavaria, Bayern Innovativ and the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Bayerns (KVB) are launching a three-part roadshow titled ‘Fit für die Digitalisierung in Arztpraxen’. The series begins with a free webinar on October 21, 2026, designed to help medical practices assess their digital development status and understand the practical applications of e-prescriptions, telematics infrastructure, and artificial intelligence in daily workflows.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, the Pfalzbibliothek Kaiserslautern is hosting an information session on November 10, 2026, specifically for citizens. Led by certified ePA coaches Werner Hamm and Benno Pfeiffer, the event aims to explain how to manage medical documents digitally, set up necessary smartphone applications, and address data privacy concerns regarding the electronic patient record.
