Digital health reforms underway in Argentina and Mexico

In Argentina, a legislative proposal has been introduced in the Corrientes provincial legislature to create a Digital Transformation Program for the health system. Sponsored by Deputy Albana Rotela Cañete, the bill aims to establish a permanent legal framework for integrating technologies such as electronic medical records and telemedicine. The initiative seeks to move beyond temporary administrative resolutions to improve service efficiency and access across both public and private facilities, with the Ministry of Public Health serving as the governing authority.

In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum detailed strategic measures to strengthen the public health system through the IMSS-Bienestar program. Key objectives include implementing digital clinical records to reduce patient wait times from 40 to 10 minutes, installing basic laboratories for immediate testing, and expanding internet connectivity. These technological measures have reached 40 percent of health centers nationwide. Additionally, the federal government is conducting unannounced inspections of hospitals to evaluate service conditions and is coordinating logistics to improve medicine supply and medical staff regularization.
