Digital health tools shown feasible for cognitive monitoring in cancer patients
A study of 51 women with metastatic breast cancer in Australia found that a 28‑day smartphone‑administered cognitive ecological momentary assessment (EMA) was feasible, with high satisfaction (median 90%), low burden, 94% adherence and 100% retention. Cognitive tests of working memory, executive function and processing speed showed strong reliability (ICCs >0.90) and convergent validity with baseline clinical measures.
A separate pilot trial of telehealth group cognitive‑behavioral therapy for insomnia in patients with primary brain tumors demonstrated that recruitment, enrollment and retention targets were met, and that longitudinal neurocognitive testing was achievable. Participants completed objective cognitive batteries at baseline, post‑intervention and follow‑up, and reported the procedures as acceptable. Preliminary analyses suggested possible improvements in cognitive functioning after the intervention.
