Digital innovation hubs expand in Uganda and Madagascar

Educational institutions in Uganda and Madagascar are launching new initiatives to enhance digital skills and entrepreneurship.

In Uganda, a Shs 4 billion project is expanding digital innovation beyond Kampala. Through a partnership between the MTN Foundation Uganda, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, and Centenary Technology Services, new innovation hubs are being established at four public universities. The MTN ACE Spark Innovation Hub at Busitema University is already operational, providing students with access to training in artificial intelligence, software development, data science, cybersecurity, and cloud computing to bridge the geographical digital divide.

In Madagascar, IT University has introduced a new specialization in Digital Leadership and Administration. In collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, the program aims to train students to create and manage businesses, specifically targeting sectors such as agriculture, livestock, mining, and international trade. The university has also partnered with banks to provide financial support for the most promising student projects.
