Digital literacy efforts address privacy and oversharing risks
Efforts to increase digital literacy and privacy awareness are being emphasized in Indonesia to combat the risks of oversharing on social media.
In Depok, lecturers from Universitas Pamulang conducted a community service program for PKK women in Bukit Sawangan Indah. The initiative, titled ‘Wise in Digital Media through Education on Oversharing and Personal Branding for Families’, aimed to teach participants how to manage their digital identities and avoid sharing excessive personal information. Experts warned that posting real-time locations, children's activities, or family details can lead to privacy violations and information misuse.
Separately, discussions regarding wealth display on social media highlight that many affluent individuals choose to maintain privacy to avoid security risks such as theft, fraud, and harassment. For these individuals, avoiding the public display of luxury assets is often a strategic choice to ensure personal and family safety rather than a mere lack of interest in status symbols.
