Digital maintenance: managing macOS apps and duplicate files

Digital maintenance involves more than just deleting files to free up storage space. On macOS, simply moving an application to the Trash often leaves behind residual files such as settings, cache, logs, and helpers. These accumulated files can occupy significant storage over time. Tools like Kaspersky for macOS now include an ‘App Clean’ feature designed to remove applications along with all associated data and track remnants of previously deleted apps.

Additionally, managing duplicate files is a key part of computer upkeep. Duplicates of documents, photos, videos, and music can accumulate across Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices. Various tools can identify these files based on content, name, or modification date. However, users are cautioned not to delete files within application or system folders, as doing so may compromise operating system stability.
