Digital manga services comico and MANGA MIRAI announce closures

Several digital manga distribution services are undergoing closures or transitions. The vertical-scrolling manga service comico has announced it will terminate its operations on January 6, 2027, after approximately 13 years of service.

In the United States, NTT DOCOMO will end its “MANGA MIRAI” digital comic distribution service on December 15, 2026. The service, which launched in March 2025 and offered over 28,000 volumes of Japanese manga in English, is being discontinued due to the current business environment.

NTT DOCOMO customers will have their user information and purchased libraries migrated to “MangaPlaza,” a service operated by NTT Solmare Corporation. To maintain access to purchased titles on the new platform, users must create a MangaPlaza account using their registered email address by September 30, 2026.
