Digital media trends show shift toward on-demand entertainment

Global entertainment consumption is shifting toward highly personalized, on-demand digital formats. In the United States, consumers spend approximately six hours daily with media and entertainment, with younger demographics like Gen Z and millennials increasingly favoring social media content over traditional television.

Within the U.S. market, legal internet casino gaming has seen rapid growth. In states where real-money online casino gaming is permitted, the sector generated $10.73 billion in revenue during 2025, marking a 27.6% increase from the previous year.

In the United Kingdom, the distinction between traditional broadcasting and streaming has blurred. According to Ofcom’s 2026 Media Nations report, Netflix has become a primary choice for 26% of viewers, slightly surpassing the BBC at 25%. This reflects a broader trend where consumers move fluidly between streaming, social media, podcasts, and mobile gaming throughout the day.
