Digital medical record implementation efforts in Mexico and Argentina
In Mexico, Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, Undersecretary of Sectoral Integration and Development at the Secretariat of Health, announced plans to achieve 100% coverage of the Digital Clinical Record and electronic prescriptions within the IMSS-Bienestar system by February 2027. While 1,270 units and 277 hospitals within the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) already utilize electronic records, approximately 4,796 medical centers under the IMSS-Bienestar framework still require implementation. The initiative aims to optimize medication supplies by better tracking patient needs.
In Argentina, the Medical College of the Province of Santa Fe has announced that starting in November 2026, physicians will receive a 20% reimbursement of the value of each Digital Medical Certificate issued, provided they are up to date with their institutional obligations. The digital platform, developed alongside the Social Security Fund for Health Professionals of Santa Fe, was designed to streamline procedures, reduce paper use, and prevent document forgery. Reimbursements will be processed monthly, with retroactive payments planned for certificates issued since the platform's launch.
