Digital Missionaries Meeting to address Church presence in online spaces
The Alfândega da Fé will host the Digital Missionaries Meeting on September 26, 2026. This initiative aims to gather individuals committed to evangelization within digital environments, responding to Pope Leo XIV’s call for the Church to renew its missionary presence in the digital world to foster a culture of encounter, truth, and fraternity.
The event will bring together priests, religious figures, laity, communicators, and researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by digital culture. The program includes conferences, reflections, and a performance by Padre Guilherme, a Portuguese priest and DJ active in digital spaces.
In a related theme of missionary engagement, Dom José Gislon emphasized the vital role of laypeople in the Church's mission. Highlighting the importance of lay participation in both ecclesial and social spheres, he noted that active involvement from various community members—including youth and catechists—is essential for the Church to fulfill its mandate and build a just and peaceful society.
