Workers' Party faces internal rift following Lula's election defeat
Following President Lula’s unexpected election results, internal tensions have surfaced within the Workers' Party (PT). Leadership and campaign members are reportedly divided, with blame being exchanged between the political core and the communication team.
Members of the PT have identified Sidônio Palmeira, the Minister of Social Communication, as a primary figure responsible for the campaign's shortcomings. Critics argue the campaign relied too heavily on state machinery and failed to address practical concerns like the cost of living, focusing instead on abstract themes such as sovereignty and rare earths. There are also criticisms regarding the timing of social benefit announcements and the use of podcast-style communication over traditional interviews.
Other party figures, including newly elected Deputy Pedro Rousseff, have called for a strategic shift. Proposed changes include a digital communication overhaul to avoid alienating voters, more concrete economic proposals regarding food and fuel prices, and addressing tensions surrounding the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
