Digital pallet accounts automate supply chain loading equipment tracking

Digital pallet accounts are being used to automate the calculation of balances for reusable loading equipment, such as Euro pallets and grid boxes, within supply chains, warehouses, and freight forwarding companies.

Traditional methods using paper receipts and manual spreadsheets often require significant effort to maintain a reliable overview. A digital account functions similarly to a financial ledger, where every movement—such as a delivery or a return—updates the balance between business partners. To ensure accuracy, all parties must use a consistent accounting perspective and sign convention to define whether a balance represents a claim or a liability.

The calculation follows a standard logic: the current balance equals the previous balance plus additions minus subtractions. For example, if a supplier delivers 30 Euro pallets and receives 20 exchangeable pallets in return, the transaction results in a specific net change to the outstanding balance.
