Digital presence and online rankings reshape dental industry reputation
The dental profession is experiencing a shift in how reputation is built, moving from traditional word-of-mouth to digital presence. Social media platforms like Instagram allow dentists to showcase clinical cases, educational content, and communication styles, providing visibility to younger practitioners who may lack an established patient base.
Research indicates that digital presence significantly influences patient choices. In a study conducted in Spain, 41.4% of dental patients reported visiting the websites or social media profiles of practices, and 23.5% did so when switching dentists. However, experts note that while a large following increases visibility, it is not a direct measure of clinical diagnostic or surgical quality.
In Poland, new digital tools are emerging to help patients navigate these options. The portal NajlepsiDentyści.pl, operated by JusT Consulting, has compiled data from 8,451 dental practices across 126 cities. The platform uses an algorithm based on public Google Maps data, specifically calculating the lower bound of the Wilson confidence interval (95%) to ensure that practices with a high volume of reviews are prioritized over those with a high rating but very few reviews.
