Digital safety identified as competitive advantage for Vietnamese SMEs

At a forum held in Da Nang on August 21 titled ‘Safe Digital Future for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)’, experts emphasized that digital safety must be integrated with digital transformation to serve as a competitive advantage.

Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), stated that businesses should move away from ‘naive’ technology application and instead view digital safety as a core component of corporate governance. While AI, cloud computing, and big data offer opportunities for SMEs to optimize operations, increased reliance on digital platforms makes customer data and operating systems highly vulnerable to risks such as data leaks, online fraud, and system disruptions.

Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan from the Ministry of Public Security noted that SMEs do not necessarily need expensive defense systems that exceed their budgets. Instead, the focus should be on building practical self-defense capabilities and the ability to recover quickly from incidents. The forum, organized by the National Cybersecurity Association, Vietnam Cybersecurity Electronic Magazine, Asia Fund, and Duy Tan University, also launched a ‘Cybersecurity Handbook for SMEs’ to provide practical guidance and solutions for the sector.
