Digital services boost revenue for small Brazilian retailers
Small retail businesses in Brazil are increasingly diversifying their revenue streams by integrating digital services into their traditional points of sale. Neighborhood grocery stores, bazaars, and convenience stores are evolving into service hubs that offer mobile phone recharges, SIM card sales, and banking correspondent services alongside standard retail products.
Data from the Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Services Companies (Abecs) indicates significant growth in electronic transactions. In the first half of 2026, card transactions reached R$ 2.3 trillion, an 8% increase. Additionally, the ‘Tap on Phone’ technology, which converts smartphones into payment terminals, saw a 79.2% surge, moving R$ 53.6 billion.
Redeflex, a company specializing in distribution and electronic transactions, supports this trend with a portfolio of digital solutions. The company operates over 57,000 points of sale across ten states, reaching approximately 45 million people. This diversification strategy aims to increase turnover and customer visit frequency by leveraging existing client relationships through added convenience.
