Digital services reach 56% of global service exports

Digital services now account for 56% of global service exports, according to the UNCTAD “Global Trade Update - September 2026” report. Over the last decade, digitally deliverable services have grown at an average annual rate of 7.1%, outpacing total service exports.

Key drivers for this growth include the expansion of digital platforms, advancements in cloud computing, and improved connectivity infrastructure in various regions. The sectors contributing to this trend include financial and insurance services, telecommunications, computer and information services, research and development, and professional consulting.

The report highlights a significant divide between economic tiers. In advanced economies, digitally deliverable services make up approximately 61% of total service exports. In contrast, this figure drops to just 16% in least developed countries, where exports remain concentrated in traditional sectors such as transport and travel.
