Digital signature platforms advance legal technology in Argentina and Peru

The Colegio de Escribanos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (CECBA) has launched the Plataforma Ciudadana de Firmas (PCF), a digital tool designed to allow citizens and companies to sign contracts and agreements without physical meetings or paper. The platform is intended for operations that do not require notary certification, such as rental contracts and commercial agreements. To ensure security, the system analyzes biometric parameters of the electronic signature, including pressure, stroke, speed, and acceleration. Once signed, the PDF is locked to prevent modifications or the extraction of the signature.

In Peru, research into the legal effects of digital signatures indicates they serve as a valid mechanism for expressing will in electronic legal acts. Under the principle of functional equivalence, digital signatures produce the same legal effects as handwritten ones when meeting specific technical and legal requirements. However, challenges remain in Peru, including insufficient training for legal operators and limited technological interoperability between public and private institutions.
