Digital Society challenges Swiss surveillance transparency in court

The Digital Society is taking legal action against Swiss intelligence services following disputes over mass surveillance and data access. While the Service for Cyber and Electromagnetic Actions (CEA) admitted to finding data belonging to the Digital Society during a retrospective search and agreed to delete the illegally stored datasets, the organization continues to be denied full access to information regarding how they appear in cable interception records.

The group intends to bring the matter before the Federal Administrative Court to demand transparency, arguing that democratic control over state mass surveillance is impossible without complete data disclosure. This conflict stems from concerns that the technical reality of internet traffic makes it impossible to limit cable interception strictly to foreign intelligence as previously promised by the Federal Council.
