Digital subscriptions and connectivity services impact household budgets
Digital services, including mobile telephony, home internet, and streaming platforms, are increasingly consuming significant portions of household budgets. In Romania, providers such as Digi, Orange, and Vodafone offer various connectivity packages. For instance, Digi provides fiber internet starting from approximately 3.75 euros per month, while Orange offers bundles that include fiber internet, television, and streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max.
Beyond basic connectivity, the cumulative cost of multiple digital subscriptions—such as Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, and Canva—can impact personal finances. While individual monthly payments may seem small, they can aggregate to substantial annual amounts, sometimes exceeding 4,200 lei per year. Experts note a psychological effect where consumers more easily accept multiple small recurring payments than a single large one, often leading to underestimated total expenditures.
