Digital technologies are transforming the agricultural sector

The agricultural sector is entering a new phase of digital transformation known as ‘Precision Agriculture 2.0’. According to an analysis by Stratesys specialists, this stage focuses on connecting systems, integrating data, and automating daily operational decisions.

Key drivers for this shift include regulatory pressures, rising production costs, labor shortages, and increasing demands for sustainability. Technologies such as satellites, sensors, algorithms, and robotics are allowing for decision-making precision that was unattainable a decade ago. Luis Piguillem, associate director at Stratesys, notes that technology is intended to complement farmers' accumulated experience rather than replace it, helping to manage increasingly scarce and expensive resources.

Despite these advancements, the adoption of technology among smaller farms remains hindered by limited rural connectivity, high initial investment costs, and the need for digital training. Major technological drivers identified include sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT), which allow for the monitoring of soil moisture, nutrient levels, and solar radiation.
