Digital technology reshapes banking in Eastern Europe
Digital technologies are fundamentally reshaping the financial sectors in Eastern Europe, according to research from Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. The study indicates that digital platforms, automated lending, and data analytics have become essential components for modern finance, helping institutions reduce costs and reach remote customers.
The impact varies by region. Poland and Romania benefit from robust venture capital ecosystems and deep credit markets. In contrast, while Ukraine provides strong support for startups through incubators and grants, it faces challenges in scaling innovations due to limited investor appetite and smaller market sizes.
Emerging trends include the integration of traditional banking into digital ecosystems, the testing of blockchain for cross-border payments, and the use of artificial intelligence for credit scoring. These advancements allow for more seamless online experiences involving loans, investments, and insurance.
